I need to start writing this stuff down...

Like many people I have been guilty of making resolutions for the New Year that tend to fall by the wayside quickly. This year I have several ideas of things I would like to accomplish, mostly in the forms of changes to my lifestyle. Now, the big question is whether to implement them all at once or gradually add things. Usually I am not one for waiting around so I try and make drastic changes but all that has done in the past is burn me out and I fallback into bad habits. Here are some ideas of things I would like to be able to do on a regular basis:

1) quit the caffeine - this will no doubt be the hardest thing for me to do. I am a big fan of coffee, espresso, and soda drinks. I do have a two-fold financial incentive in this one. First, I will save A LOT of money by not making my daily trips to the Java House...I have started making my coffee at home so that may be the bridge. Second, I am going to start donating plasma again and caffeine intake drastically slows down the donation process and increases problems (at least in my case), making it more likely I will stop.

2) start keeping a journal - this sounds kind of redundant considering I am writing a blog, but there are many things that occur on a daily basis I would like to remember, there are thoughts I would like to put down on paper that I necessarily don't want many, if anybody, people reading, and it will help me get into the habit of writing more and get the creative juices flowing.

3) making "To-do" lists - Lord knows I am amongst the top 1% of all procrastinators worldwide (as opposed to being among the top 1% of all naval aviators). I did this in college for awhile and I seemed to get much more done if I had a list that I could cross things off as I do them. I just have to remember not to get down on myself when there are days I don't get a lot done.

4) be more active - this should be very simple since I work across the street from an indoor track and can easily do this over my lunch break. This get me started towards fulfilling my many goals that I have previously blogged about.

5) read more - I have a large pile of very interesting books that I am dying to read. I like to read while walking, somehow I am able to do this without falling or running into anything, so once the weather gets a little nicer (not ever alot nicer, just not bone-chilling cold) I can walk to and from my car in the morning to the lab.

These are the main goals...there are other usual ones (lose weight, eat better, blahblahblah) but I think they will fall into place if I can concentrate on the five above.
